How black points work in Qatar
Each violation carries a set number of black points that stay on the licence for a year. Accumulating 14 points in a year triggers a licence suspension: three months for the first time, six months for the second, and a year with a mandatory driving course for the third. How to check and pay traffic fines in Qatar
Metrash2 is the primary tool. Open Traffic Services, then Traffic Violations, and enter your Qatar ID or the plate number to see every recorded violation, the fine, the points and, for camera violations, the photograph. Pay by card in the app. Fines can also be checked and paid on the MOI website and at the Traffic Department. Anyone can check a plate's violations, which is useful before buying a used car. Fines follow the vehicle for ownership transfer and the driver for licence renewal.
The 50 per cent early-payment discount
Most traffic fines in Qatar are reduced by half if paid within 30 days of the violation being recorded. A QR 500 mobile-phone fine paid in the first month costs QR 250. The discount does not apply to the most serious violations referred to court. It is the single easiest saving in Qatar motoring: turn on Metrash2 notifications and pay the day the fine appears.
