Pickups do two jobs in Qatar: they carry the country's construction and farming trade, and on weekends they carry families to the desert. The market splits the same way, between the mid-size Japanese and Korean double cabs that fleets buy by the dozen and the American full-size trucks that have become lifestyle vehicles. These are the pickups on sale new in Qatar in September 2026, with catalogue prices, and which one to buy for which job.

Mitsubishi L200 Double Cab 2.4 GL - QR 67,450

The cheapest new double cab in the catalogue, and a genuine work truck: a 2.4-litre diesel, a six-speed manual in the GL, a leaf-sprung rear that carries a tonne, and Mitsubishi's Super Select 4WD on the higher trims. The cabin is plain and the ride is unloaded-pickup firm, but it is the one contractors buy because it costs nothing to run and Qatar Automobiles Company stocks every part. Ideal for a fleet or a farm; a family will want the automatic and the GLS.

Toyota Hilux Double Cab 2.0L Petrol 2WD - from QR 87,000

Qatar's best-selling pickup for a reason: the Hilux has a reputation for surviving anything, the resale value of a Land Cruiser and an Abdullah Abdulghani service network everywhere. The 2.0-litre petrol 2WD is the fleet entry; the 2.7 petrol and 2.4 diesel 4WD versions are the ones private buyers take to the desert, and the 4.0 V6 is the fastest thing on a farm. Payload is around a tonne, towing 3.5 tonnes on the diesel. If you are choosing one pickup blind, this is it.

Ford Ranger Double Cab XLT - QR 119,900, Raptor - QR 259,000

The current Ranger is the most car-like mid-size pickup: a 2.0-litre bi-turbo diesel with a ten-speed automatic, a wide cabin with a portrait touchscreen, and a ride that does not punish an empty bed. The XLT is the family and lifestyle pick. The Ranger Raptor, with a 3.0-litre EcoBoost V6 making 397 hp and Fox suspension, is a different animal - a dune-basher from the factory, and at QR 259,000 the cheapest way into serious desert performance.

Chevrolet Silverado LD 5.3 V8 - QR 138,000, GMC Sierra 1500 2.7T SLE - QR 158,200

Full-size American pickups cost surprisingly little in Qatar. The Silverado LD with the 5.3-litre V8 (355 hp, ten-speed automatic) is the value pick for anyone who wants a big bed and a V8 soundtrack. The Sierra 1500 with the 2.7-litre turbocharged four-cylinder is the more refined truck, with a nicer cabin and a multi-function tailgate. Both drink petrol - budget 7-8 km/L - and both are wide for a Doha car park.

Ford F-150 3.5 EcoBoost XLT - QR 189,900, Raptor - QR 399,000

The F-150 XLT with the 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6 (400 hp) is the best all-rounder of the full-size trucks: strong, quiet, and with a cabin most SUVs would envy. The Raptor, at QR 399,000 with 450 hp and long-travel suspension, is the desert toy of choice for people who could afford anything - watch the Sealine car park on a Friday.

Which one for which job

Fleet or farm on a budget: the L200 GL, and the Hilux if you can stretch to it for resale. One truck for work and weekends: a Hilux 2.4 diesel 4WD or a Ranger XLT. Family truck that replaces an SUV: the Ranger XLT or F-150 XLT. Desert performance: Ranger Raptor at half the price of the F-150 Raptor, or the F-150 Raptor if the budget is not the question. City driving and parking: the mid-size trucks - the full-size Americans are 5.9 metres long.

Running costs and registration

Pickups registered as private vehicles follow the same Istimara and Fahes rules as cars; commercially registered trucks are inspected more often and need the right licence class for heavier loads. Insurance is usually cheaper than an equivalent SUV. Diesel is QR 2.05 a litre against QR 2.00 for Premium petrol, and a diesel Hilux or L200 returns 11-13 km/L against 7-9 for the V8 and V6 Americans - over 30,000 km a year that is a QR 2,500 difference.
