Luxury SUVs in Qatar 2026: Porsche Cayenne vs BMW X5 vs Mercedes GLE vs Range Rover Sport vs Lexus RX

Between QR 225,000 and QR 360,000 Qatar's showrooms offer five luxury SUVs that are bought for the same reasons and by the same people: the Lexus RX, the BMW X5, the Mercedes-Benz GLE, the Porsche Cayenne and the Range Rover Sport. All five are quiet, quick and comfortable; they differ in how they drive, how they age in the heat and what they are worth in three years. We put the entry versions on sale in Qatar in September 2026 side by side.

Lexus RX 350 Elite - QR 227,900

The value option, and for a lot of buyers the sensible one. A 2.4-litre turbo four with 275 hp and an eight-speed automatic, a cabin that is quiet and immaculately built, and the Lexus reputation in the Gulf for simply not breaking. It is the least sporting of the five and the smallest inside, but Abdullah Abdulghani & Bros' dealer support and the resale value - Lexus holds its price better than any German brand here - make the RX the lowest-cost car in this group over three years by a distance.

Audi Q7 45 TFSI quattro - QR 305,000

Strictly a seven-seater and not in the headline, but it competes on price. A 2.0-litre turbo (265 hp), quattro all-wheel drive and the best interior screens in the class. Slower than the six-cylinder rivals and the least glamorous, it is the practical choice if the third row matters.

Land Rover Range Rover Sport P400 SE - QR 312,000

The best-looking car here and the one with real ability off the tarmac: a 3.0-litre mild-hybrid straight-six with 400 hp, air suspension that raises for sand and drops for the motorway, and Terrain Response that makes a Sealine track easy. The cabin is the most theatrical of the five. Two cautions for Qatar: Land Rover's reliability record in the heat is the weakest in this group, and depreciation is the steepest - budget for both, or lease.

Porsche Cayenne - QR 351,500

The driver's choice. A 3.0-litre turbo V6 with 353 hp, an eight-speed automatic and a chassis that makes 2.2 tonnes feel like a hot hatch on the Lusail Expressway sweepers. The base Cayenne is well equipped but the options list is long and expensive; a typical Doha specification adds QR 40,000-70,000. Porsche Centre Doha's servicing is costly and the tyres go quickly, but the Cayenne holds its value better than the X5 or GLE.

BMW X5 xDrive40i - QR 359,000

The all-rounder. A 3.0-litre turbo straight-six with 381 hp, the best infotainment of the group in iDrive, a huge boot and the most composed ride and handling balance of the German pair. It is the car to choose if you drive a lot, because it is the most relaxing at 120 km/h and the most engaging when the road bends. Run-flat tyres are noisy and expensive to replace; many owners switch to conventional tyres and carry a repair kit.

Mercedes-Benz GLE 450 4MATIC - QR 359,500

The GLE 450 matches the X5 on price and power - a 3.0-litre mild-hybrid straight-six with 381 hp - and beats it on cabin drama, with the twin-screen dashboard and the ambient lighting Qatar buyers love. It is softer than the BMW and quieter, the better car for a chauffeur-driven owner, and the optional third row makes it the only one of the German pair that seats seven. The GLE Coupé at QR 459,900 is the same car with less boot and more presence.

Heat, servicing and resale

All five cope with Qatar summers; the differences are in the details. Lexus and Porsche have the fewest air-conditioning and electrical complaints; Land Rover the most. Agency servicing over three years runs roughly QR 6,000-9,000 for the Lexus, QR 10,000-15,000 for the BMW and Mercedes and QR 12,000-18,000 for the Porsche and Range Rover. On resale after three years, expect the Lexus and the Cayenne to return around 60-65% of list, the X5 and GLE around 50-55%, and the Range Rover Sport 45-50%.

The verdict

Lowest cost of ownership and zero drama: Lexus RX. Seven seats: Q7 or GLE. Driving pleasure: Cayenne. The best balance of everything: X5. Style and the desert: Range Rover Sport, with a comprehensive warranty.
