Toyota Land Cruiser 300 vs Nissan Patrol Y63 (2026): Which Should You Buy in Qatar?
There is no older argument in Qatar than Land Cruiser versus Patrol. For 2026 it has been reset: Nissan's all-new Y63 Patrol has arrived with twin-turbo V6 power and a cabin that finally answers the Toyota, while the Land Cruiser 300 has added a hybrid and kept the crown as the best-selling car in the country. Both start within a thousand riyals of each other. Here is how they compare on the things that decide it: price by grade, engines, sand, space, running costs and what you get back when you sell.
Land Cruiser 300 vs Patrol Y63: prices in Qatar
Toyota Land Cruiser 300 starts at QR 238,700 for the GX with the 4.0-litre V6, rising through GXR and VXR grades to the twin-turbo hybrid GXR at QR 345,000 and the GR Sport at the top. Nissan Patrol Y63 starts at QR 237,900 for the XE with the new 3.8-litre V6, with the 3.5-litre twin-turbo PRO-4X at QR 362,900 and the NISMO above that. On entry price it is a dead heat; on the mid grades most buyers actually choose, the Land Cruiser's GXR is typically QR 20,000 to 30,000 more than the equivalent Patrol, and Toyota discounts less.
Engines and performance
Land Cruiser: the 4.0 V6 (271 hp) on the GX is honest and slow; the 3.5 twin-turbo V6 (409 hp) on the higher grades and the new hybrid version are quick, and the 10-speed automatic is excellent. Patrol: the new 3.8 V6 on the XE and the 3.5 twin-turbo V6 (425 hp) on the PRO-4X and above, with a 9-speed automatic. In a straight line the twin-turbo Patrol is the faster car; on a rough track the Land Cruiser's E-KDSS suspension and Multi-Terrain Select give it the more composed ride. Both are body-on-frame with low-range gearing and locking differentials on the off-road grades.
In the desert
This is where Qatar buyers decide. The Land Cruiser is lighter, its E-KDSS disconnects the anti-roll bars for wheel travel, and the sand crawl and Multi-Terrain Monitor are the most refined systems in the class. The Patrol Y63 has grown in ability, with an improved terrain-mode system, more ground clearance than before and the PRO-4X's dedicated off-road hardware, and its extra power counts on soft dunes. Honest verdict from people who drive both at Sealine every weekend: the Land Cruiser is the easier car to drive well in sand; the Patrol is the faster car in the hands of someone who already knows what they are doing.
Cabin, seats and technology
The Y63 Patrol is the newer design and it shows: twin 14.3-inch screens, a quieter cabin and more rear-seat room; it seats seven or eight. The Land Cruiser 300 cabin is more conservative, with a 12.3-inch screen and superb build, and seats seven. Both have full driver-assistance suites on the mid grades and above. If you spend more time on Al Shamal Road than in the sand, the Patrol's cabin is the more pleasant place.
Running costs and reliability
Fuel: both are thirsty V6s; expect 13 to 15 litres per 100 km in Doha traffic for the naturally aspirated engines and more for the twin-turbos. The Land Cruiser hybrid is the exception and the reason it costs QR 345,000. Servicing: Toyota's AAB network is the largest in Qatar and the Land Cruiser's parts are the cheapest of any car in its class; Nissan's Saleh Al Hamad Al Mana network is strong too. Reliability: the 300 has an established record; the Y63 is new, and its first-year data will decide whether it matches the legendary Y62.
Resale value in Qatar
The Land Cruiser is the best-holding car in the Qatar market, full stop. A three-year-old 300 in GXR trim still asks around 70 to 75 per cent of its new price. The outgoing Y62 Patrol held around 60 to 65 per cent. The Y63 is too new to judge, and its arrival has pushed used Y62 prices down, which is worth knowing if you are considering a nearly-new Patrol: they are the bargain of the moment.
Verdict: Land Cruiser 300 or Patrol Y63?
Buy the Land Cruiser if you drive in the desert regularly, keep cars for years, or care about resale; it is the more complete tool and the safer money. Buy the Patrol if you want the newer cabin, the extra performance and a better deal on the mid grades, and you do not mind being early to a new generation. And if your budget is QR 190,000 rather than 240,000, the Land Cruiser Prado 250 at QR 183,700 is the answer neither of these two wants you to hear.
